Dr. Brian Cox
Three Department of Physiology faculty members were honoured with Temerty Faculty of Medicine teaching awards at a ceremony on May 15th. Students nominate faculty for these awards, making them especially meaningful.
Dr. Brian Cox won the Excellence in Linking Undergraduate Teaching to Research in Life Sciences award at the undergraduate level. Dr. Cox is known departmentally for going the extra mile to make sure his students understand the material and have access to the opportunities they seek. He also serves as Co-Lead of the Department's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee. Read more about Dr. Cox here.
Also at the undergraduate level, Dr. Nohjin Kee received the Sustained Excellence and Innovation in Life Sciences Education award. As the current director of undergraduate human physiology courses, Dr. Kee has been honoured with many awards throughout his career for his innovative approach to teaching, both in the classroom and the lab. Finally, Dr. Helen Miliotis's teaching at the graduate level was celebrated with the Early Career Excellence in Teaching and Mentorship award. As a graduate of both the Institute of Medical Sciences and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education here at U of T, Dr. Miliotis brings an informed and rigorous approach to leadership and mentorship. In addition to serving as Program Director of the unique MHSc in Medical Physiology, Dr. Miliotis designs and delivers the Graduate Professional Development programming for our PhD students, encouraging them to think outside of the box to attain fulfilling careers in physiology.
