Inaugural Physiology & Black Health Symposium: Join us!

The Department of Physiology invites all members of the Temerty Medicine community to join us for our department’s first annual symposium on Physiology and Black Health. It will take place on Friday March 15th, 3:30-6:00pm in the Macleod Auditiorium, refreshments will be served, and we would love for as many faculty, trainees, and staff as possible to attend and benefit from what is sure to be an exciting and enlightening afternoon. This year's speakers include:

Dr. Kacie Deters headshot

 

Dr. Kacie Deters of UCLA’s Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology who researches dementia in Black populations.

Dr. Terence Keel headshot

 

Dr. Terence Keel, who holds a split appointment in the Department of African American Studies and the UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics and brings us a historical perspective on the ways in which anti-Black racism has co-evolved with science; 

Dr. Angeline Dukes headshot

 

Dr. Angeline Dukes of the University of Minnesota, a neuroscientist with a teaching stream appointment and significant experience leading EDI initiatives. She is the founder of Black In Neuro.

Dr. AJ Hinton headshot

 

And our keynote speaker, Dr. AJ Hinton, of Vanderbilt University’s Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics who will speak to us about building inclusive labs based on his own experience running a diabetes research program as well as his significant DEI and mentorship scholarship.
