Professor Zhengping Jia's Research Sheds Light on Autism/Epilepsy Link

U of T Physiology's Professor Zhengping Jia and his team recently published a new study in the journal Nature Communicationsthat sheds light on the link between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and epilepsy.

As Professor Jia told SickKids News:

"Our study's identification of brain regions and molecular factors share by both ASD and epilepsy may enhance our understanding of these conditions."

The study demonstrates that:

"NLG2-mediated GABAergic regulation at the nRT-thalamic pathway represents a key molecular mechanism to link epileptic seizures to ASD."
