Physiology Professors Patricia Brubaker and Amy Ramsey have both won Undergraduate Teaching Awards in Life Sciences this year.
Professor Brubaker won the Sustained Excellence and Innovation in Life Sciences Education award, while Professor Ramsey was honoured in the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Life Sciences category.
As detailed in Brubaker's nomination letter for the award, her contributions over the years include:
"The redesign of our undergraduate physiology curriculum and programs of study, creating and/or overseeing the development of 15 new undergraduate courses, teaching in and coordinating several courses, supervising undergraduate research students and serving for 16 years as our Undergraduate Coordinator/Associate Chair."
One former undergraduate student wrote:
“[Brubaker] empowers students to develop their technical and critical thinking skills by constantly challenging students to extend their learning; this is critical for undergraduate students exploring their passion for research. She is patient and understanding of the needs of every student by allowing them to learn from their mistakes.”
Congratulations to Professors Brubaker and Ramsey for carrying on Physiology's tradition of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
