~ Eligible for PSL1000H/PSL2000H/PSL4000Y Course Seminar Attendance ~
Speaker: Dr. Weichun Lin
Professor of Neuroscience, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Biography:
Dr. Lin obtained his Bachelor degree from Xiamen University in China in 1985. From 1985 to 1989, he worked as an Instructor in Biology at Xiamen University for four years. In 1989, he went to the US as a graduate student at the State University of New York at Albany, New York. He started graduate research on goldfish retina regeneration under Dr. John Schmidt, and later switched to the laboratory of Dr. Ben Szaro, working on the development of spinal neurons in Xenopus laevis. He earned a Ph.D. in Neurobiology in 1996 from the State University of New York at Albany. After his Ph.D., he completed a postdoctoral fellowship and worked as a research associate at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. In 2003, he was recruited by Dr. Thomas Südhof, as an assistant professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2011, and a full Professor in 2020. His primary research interest is cellular and molecular basis of synapse formation, using approaches such as electrophysiology, genetics, and molecular biology.
