Biography:
Ashley Smuder, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. Dr. Smuder received her Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Florida where she also completed her post-doctoral training studying skeletal muscle physiology. Prior to returning to the University of Florida, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina (2017-2019). Dr. Smuder directs the Molecular Cardiology and Myology Laboratory. Work in her laboratory is focused on understanding the molecular signaling pathways that promote cardiac and skeletal muscle dysfunction following disease or periods of prolonged inactivity. A central objective of her work is to enhance the translational significance of preclinical research by incorporating clinically relevant therapeutics and assessment of biologically meaningful variables into her research program.
