Reproductive Physiology

Course Coordinator:
T. J. Brown

Description:
This course is designed to give students an in-depth review of the physiology of the reproductive system, focusing on the functions of the male and female gonads, the endocrine regulation of the reproductive system, reproductive behavior, fertilization and implantation.  The course consists of 12 - 2h lectures, each dealing with a specific aspect of reproductive function.  Pregnancy, parturition and lactation are covered in the companion course (PSL1421H).  Knowledge of basic reproductive physiology is essential.  No single readily available textbook provides adequate coverage for the material presented.  Readings are therefore issued for each lecture.

Evaluation:
Final mark is based on two essay-based exams and a review paper:
Mid-semester exam (20%)
Final exam (40%)
Review Paper (40%) - well-focused 20-page review on a novel topic related to reproductive endocrinology or fertility/infertility.  The review should be no more than 20 pages double-spaced, exclusive of references and figures (12 pt font, 1 inch margins).
