We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Darren S. Kadis, Assistant Professor, who joined Physiology in October.
Dr. Kadis received his PhD through the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto, with a distinction in neuroscience and training in clinical neuropsychology. He conducted his graduate and post-doctoral research at the Hospital for Sick Children, gaining experience with both invasive and noninvasive brain mapping procedures.
During that time, he developed interest and expertise in magnetoencephalography (MEG), a fully-noninvasive neuroimaging/neurophysiological technique that allows for the study of neuronal populations firing in coordination.
Dr. Kadis’ expertise in MEG led him to work for several years at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he served as Assistant Professor and the Scientific Director of their MEG program.
Dr. Kadis currently studies brain-behaviour relationships and neuroplasticity in healthy development and disease. He is interested in how the brain supports language acquisition early in life, how the architecture and dynamics of the language network change in typical development, and how the network is impacted by perinatal or childhood injury.
As a Torontonian born and raised, Dr. Kadis is happy to be back in Toronto, and excited about what he calls the “impressive pedigree of quality science and focus on translation from bench to bedside” that he sees in our Physiology department.
We are equally excited to welcome Dr. Kadis warmly, both back to Toronto and to Physiology!
